Alicia Getting Fit

I'm an overweight lifeguard trying to become a healthy, strong, and confident person.

Oh, and it's A-lee-see-uh, not Alisha. :)

It sucked. I did maybe a mile… IN TWENTY MINUTES. Ugh. I was pissed. I’m going to start the C25K program from the beginning. It is frustrating, but I’m hoping that if I complete the program while I’m up here, I’ll be able to beast about anything back in SC. I did accomplish my fear of running up here though, and I’m going to keep going at it.

One plus about Colorado, it’s not hot and humid. :)

So I have been in Colorado for a bit over a week now and the elevation has been rough. I’ve been walking around as much as I can, but I am terrified to get out and run.

I did go swimming earlier this week. I was only able to swim 250 yards! I was pissed. I can swim 500 yards without stopping back at home, but that 250 was rough.

The people up here are beautiful and fit which is the main reason why I’m nervous to go out and run because I am not in shape. Just walking up to the dining hall I get out of breath. But actually, it has gotten better.

Hopefully I’ll be out running again. I miss it actually.

I’ve been eating pretty well up here. Lots of salad. Lots and lots of salad. Camp food isn’t necessarily the best, but right now we’re eating at the Commons which is the dining area for the people staying up at the camp grounds and lodging. We actually don’t start eating in our actually dining hall until Wednesday. I’m anxious to see what kind of food we’ll be eating all summer and what I’ll actually eat.

Chris and I are doing a competition to see who can lose the most weight this summer. I get back to SC in August, so we have three months. I’m determined to win. In fact, some clothes are feeling better already. :)

Oh and random, but I found a pair of Chacos up here for $4 at a thrift store! Seriously, it is awesome up here and I may never want to leave. :)

I ran outside yesterday for the first time in ages. I ran all the way to a local university which was a bit over a mile. Well, I didn’t run the whole thing… Haha. But, it took me right under 15 minutes to get there, which I thought was good. I think I will do it again when I get off from work, but I’m not too sure.

I leave for Colorado in a week. I’m getting really nervous. Bah!

Yesterday I mixed up my running a bit.

I would for a minute and walk for a minute. Each run, I would increase the speed by 0.5. So, I ran a minute at 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0. When I got to 7.0, I dropped my runs down to thirty seconds. So I ran thirty seconds at 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, and 9.5.

I got a good time for my mile I think. I believe it was 12:45 or something like that. And in 20 minutes I did just a little bit over 1.5 miles.

That was a tough run, but I felt great knowing I could run at a 9.5… even if it was only 30 seconds. :)

I ran 20 minutes again! :D Yeeeeaaaah!

I ran for 17:20 yesterday at a 4.5, walked until 18:30, and then ran the last 1:30 at 5.0 and 5.5.

I was pretty mad at myself. Why? I was so close to running another 20 minutes again, but I let my mind get to me. I need to get over the thinking and I just need to do it. I know I can. I’ve done it before. I shouldn’t let my thoughts stop me.

But, here’s the plus about that run— I was going to just not do it because my legs were still KILLING me from Sunday’s hike (in fact, they STILL are!), but I went ahead and did it. I guess going 17:20 with killer calf muscles is okay, right?

Yesterday, Chris and I took a hike up to Table Rock. I’ve never been before and he has been hundreds of times it seems like. It’s a 7 mile hike round trip and we got to the park at like 4:00, so we legit were pressed for time! 3.5 miles at an incline. Seriously, one of the toughest things ever. I was almost gave up several times, but he kept pushing me. We got up there in 2 hours, which I guess was an okay pace.

I only brought one bottle of Gatorade though. On the way down him and I were exhausted. We made it back down in like 1:30 or so. Man, it was an epic hike!

We went and got Mexican afterwards and all I could handle was a cheese quesadilla, lol. It was beautiful up there though! I wish we were able to spend more time enjoying the view, but I’m glad I finally got to see Table Rock! :)

Sure, it was at a 4.5, but I did it for a whole 20 minutes without walking. I was SO excited! I texted my BFF and Chris right away! Ah! I’ve come so far from where I’ve started!

I also weighed in for Dr. Oz’s thing… I’m no longer in the 200s! 198.8! :D

I want to get down to the 160s, so 30 more pounds! I lost 20 in 3 months, I can totally lose 30 by the end of the summer!

So excited for what’s in store for me! :)

No worries though! I’m still at it on the treadmill and stuff! I lost 5 pounds in in a two week span, which was pretty exciting. I haven’t stepped on the scale since then though. I’ve figured every two or three weeks to weigh myself would be good instead of every week. It’s also scary though because it’s like… what if I haven’t lost any?

I decided to go to Colorado this summer and I’m pretty excited about it! I think it was honestly the best decision. That one guy and I didn’t work out, which was a bit of a bummer at first… but I really think I found someone better. :)

He goes to the same school as me and we’re in the same major. I brought up going to Colorado for the summer and he seems pretty supportive of it and even mentioned visiting me. Oh and we’ve work out together! Seriously, finding someone who WANTS to work out with me is awesome! I didn’t have to drag him, I just mentioned I was going to work out at the Y after work and he ASKED if he could join me! Seriously, that was a highlight. :)

But yeah, I really like him a lot. In fact, I’m glad that things didn’t work out with me and that other guy… but I’m glad him and I did hang out and stuff because it helped me get over a lot of things… It kind of prepared me actually, so I’m thankful.

I’m almost out of the 200s. In fact, there’s probably a good chance I’m out of the 200s right now. Last time I weighed in two weeks ago I was 201. I will never see 200s again. Never.

Today I ran for 16 and a half minutes at a 4.5. Yes, this is still slow, but seriously.. 16 and a half minutes! Two months ago I was running a minute with breaks in between.

My goal right now is to run a solid 20 minutes at a 4.5… Then I figured I could try going 10 minutes at a 5.0 or something? I’m not too sure if that’s smart or not…

Oh, I also had my first egg white protein shake today. I mixed it with orange juice… it reminded me of an orange dreamsicle, lol.

When summer gets here, I’m going to be looking (and feeling) gooooood…. Hopefully, lol!
